CITRUS HEIGHTS, CA (MPG) - The daughter of a Military Veteran and Community Advocate, and as an African American woman, Porsche Middleton has risen higher in the City of Citrus Heights than ever before. Originally elected as the first African American woman to the City Council, she was recently elected by her Council member peers, as the City’s Vice Mayor.

The long wait came to an end and the presentation set into motion by military veteran’s advocates Marcia “GiGi” Rayford and Porsche Middleton who, upon realizing their friend had served and been wounded in Vietnam but had never received his Purple Heart, contacted the office of Congressman Ami Bera who took care of the paperwork and supplied the medal to be presented to Weiscopf.

“We will have to pay those people to provide that service. So if you want a building permit or a business license, or if you want an increase in homeless services, that’s what that pays for,” Councilwoman Porsche Middleton said.

“It’s a big deal. The election’s in November,” Porsche Middleton said outside court following the afternoon ruling. “This tells people I’m serving the community. I’m happy they’ll see that now.”
Sacramento Superior Court Judge Allen Sumner sided with Middleton at a Wednesday hearing, saying her work as a commissioner earned the right to have the title printed on the Nov. 6 ballot. Middleton was pushing against a deadline. Elections officials had to have ballot designations in hand by 5 p.m. Thursday.
