THE ISSUES

PORSCHE MIDDLETON

WORKING TOGETHER TO CONFRONT COVID-19

Our City is experiencing an unprecedented crisis that is impacting the lives of every resident and has exacted a heartbreaking toll on our families and small businesses. Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, Porsche has fought to secure the resources that our residents, businesses and service organizations need to combat the virus and keep our community healthy and safe. As Citrus Heights grapples with the deepest economic downturn in decades, Porsche is working with members of the council to strengthen state aid for our City's struggling Birdcage and Sunrise Mall economy.

Porsche helped pass CARES funding relief packages that provided aid to low income residents, expanded programs for community service organizations, supported our workers, and provided critical relief to small businesses.

Porsche is working with her colleagues to confront the economic crisis by:

  • Declaring a state of emergency with the California Office of Emergency Services in order to gain access to $1 million in federal aid to assist with local recovery efforts
  • Expanding the Citrus Heights Navigator program, which housed 311 individuals experiencing homelessness
  • Approving participation in the FEMA Great Plates Delivered Program, a million-dollar investment in local distressed restaurants and seniors in need of food.

KEEPING OUR COMMUNITIES SAFE AND STRONG

Citrus Heights is a strong community, and we must continue to confront challenges together as we work to protect the dignity and safety of every individual. In the wake of the murder of George Floyd and countless people of color, we must listen, learn, and understand the experiences of black and brown residents as we improve community policing and ensure liberty and justice for all.

On the dais, Porsche supported legislation to allow local law enforcement to gain accreditation through recognized programs that help improve culture and training and allow agencies to institute best practices and greater professionalism.

Porsche has been fighting to prevent potential layoffs of law enforcement officers by advocating for state and local government funding through COVID-19 relief grants. She knows that many issues have been laid at the feet of our police, and we must supplement funding for law enforcement with support for addiction, mental health, and homeless services.

CREATING AN ECONOMY THAT WORKS FOR ALL

Porsche, believes we need an economy that works for everyone, especially as we recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, Chris will continue to push for policies that lift up all Citrus Heights residents.

As an employer, Porsche has seen firsthand the importance in investing in our workforce and providing good wages and benefits.

Citrus Heights’ economy is driven by our Sunrise corridor businesses — over 50% of our employers are small businesses. Porsche understands firsthand what it’s like to meet payroll and the importance of providing the best customer experience possible to keep folks coming back through the doors. She will continue to fight to ensure that our small businesses have what they need to succeed. On the dais, Porsche is working to create economy opportunity by:

  • Expanding career and technical education programs and job training opportunities to give workers of all ages the skills they need to compete in our economy
  • Fighting for affordable housing so that Citrus Heights can retain young workers, allow individuals to live in the community where they work, and support business growth
  • Implementing Rental Housing Inspection Program that has a 99% compliance rate and ensures the City’s housing stock remains desirable, safe, clean and healthy option for residents. Only 7 of more than 15000 rental properties were not in compliance.
  • Approving the development of Mitchell Farms which creates 260 units of market rate housing.
  • Approving Sunrise Pointe Apartments which created 100% affordable housing, meaning all rented units will be for income qualified persons

BUILDING THE CITY OF TOMORROW

As a member of the Sacramento Transportation Authority, Porsche understands that our high-speed, 21st century economy desperately needs 21st century infrastructure. She knows that local businesses can no longer be hamstrung by deteriorated roads, an outmoded infrastructure, and lack of access to high-speed broadband. Porsche believes the time has also come to transform Citrus Heights’ aging transportation networks, invest in the people who make these networks run, and to build in a transformational way to support future needs.

On the dais, Porsche is working to build the communities of tomorrow by:

  • Leading the effort to support active transportation projects that help connect people, jobs, and communities with bike and pedestrian infrastructure.
  • Working with colleagues to make roads in Citrus Heights safer for everyone to use through the Multi Modal Transportation Safety Program which provides guidelines and procedure to initiate and evaluate community requests for new signs, striping, crosswalk
  • Approving the Electric Greenway project - a nearly 3 mile-long multi use trail between arcade Creek Park Preserve and Wachtel Way
  • Adopting low cost programs to increase positive relationships in the community including a shopping cart retrieval team that has returned over 500 shopping carts to local businesses.
  • Approving the development of the Sunrise Tomorrow specific plan to transform the Sunrise Mall.
  • Approving the purchase of the New Sylvan property and created development and design goals to support future development.
